That's What She Said 2: Electric Boogaloo

From a parking garage on E St NW between 9th and 10th.  At these rates, it's no wonder the tranny prostitutes have left 4th St!  (I admit I'm a little obsessed with the tranny prostitutes who used to conduct business in my neighborhood.  I miss them?)

Emergency Gentrification Edition

Very excited that the neighborhood farmers market is starting its season this week.  But these signs the city put up today on every tree on that block?  "EMERGENCY" just seems to be the wrong word for an event taking place weekly from April through December.  Whatevs, they're paper signs;  they won't last 8 1/2 months on a downtown tree.

In other signs of the gentrification of downtown DC around the Penn Quarter/Chinatown/Mt Vernon area:

From down the street circa September '08.  The sign is long gone, and I don't know that this is related, but there's been a lot less tranny prostitution action in the alley behind my place since I first moved here and took that photo.  In fact, haven't seen any from my balcony vantage in months.  Just the random urinator every now and then.  Ahh . . . gentrification.

Cold Tranny Mess Edition

Yea federal government snow day!  On my day off walking around downtown, I can report that most of the sidewalks are well-shoveled, salted, and sanded.  I saw at least 5 snowmen by the Capitol Christmas tree.  Here is a decidedly less family-friendly one in front of the GAO on 4th st nw:

Yes, Virginia, that is a condom on her branch penis.  Loved this sign by a crosswalk by the mall:

Push the button all you want.  And then jump over waist-high snow at least a foot deep to get to the crosswalk.  And after wandering in the snow, nothing is better than the warmth of the Botanical Garden Conservatory:

With trains!  And now my favorite place in DC.  Not just because of the plants and warmth, but because I apparently dropped my scarf just inside the entrance as I walked in and stripped off my layers, and it was still there an hour later when I left, but neatly folded on a bench.

One! Singular Sensation . . .

Hello All!
Driving back to work after lunchtime errands today I saw a MtF transsexual. And then realized this was the first transsexual I'd seen in my 1 1/2 years in Texarkana. And that I hadn't given a thought to the unfortunate dearth of Texarkana transsexuals until today.

Puts you in a philosophical mood: you don't know what you've got til it's gone. They pave paradise . . .

Speaking of singular sensations brings to mind another Texarkana "one." Texarkana is a one-escalator town. The building housing our fine city's one escalator is currently being remodeled from an antique mall into a nightclub. I'm sure the escalator will be the focal point of many illicit activities and subsequent regrets. I can't wait.

Love from the trenches,
Jess
